Bowl of Cherries

Life is like a bowl of cherries. That never made much sense to me. But that's the best I could do for today. One boy home from school because he wasn't feeling well, my day spent puttering with little jobs and answering the phone, an early volleyball game and then grocery shopping this evening left me plum out of ideas. Until I saw the cherries at the grocery store....and I thought....life is like a bowl of cherries....what in the heck does that mean anyway??
Well...a quick google search and I found out it is from a song from the 1930's, sung by Ethel Merman. And I actually like the lyrics.

Life is just a bowl of cherries
Don't make it serious
Life's too mysterious.
You work, you save, you worry so
But you can't take your dough when you go, go, go
So keep repeating it's the berries
The strongest oak must fall.
The sweet things in life
To you were just loaned
So how can you lose what you've never owned
Life is just a bowl of cherries
So live and laugh at it all.

And even though I like the lyrics I can't help but think....what in the world does any of that have to do with a bowl of cherries? And what do you do with the pits?
