The Moon

The Day 10 picture is this shot of the full moon. The story follows. I grew up in a small, picturesque river town in the Midwest. We go there often to visit our families, to spend time at the farm and to relax at the cabin. The fact that the area is beautiful in all seasons just adds to the joy of our trips back home.
This weekend we arrived in town just as the sun was going down, and the full moon was rising. A quick stop at the scenic overlook brought us the following sights. The above photo is the town across the river.
A pink sky looking north up the frozen river.

Another view of the river.

What is that peeking through the trees?

It was hard to get a nice crisp shot...but I think that you can tell what's rising.

A pretty peach moon. It comes up fast! Well...sort of fast....well...not so fast when it's really cold outside!

I thought it was worth the wait! Here is a "non-telephoto" view.

And one zoomed in.

This one is focused on the tree...nice statement of the obvious. :-)

Almost the same spot, focused on the moon....another statement of the obvious. :-)

Loved how the lighting was changing as we watched.

We hopped in the van and drove a few miles to the farm. The moon was a little higher in the sky, losing a little of it's color...but still pretty nice. The first full moon in January is the "Wolf Moon". This also happened to be the largest appearing moon that we'll see this year...it's orbit was closer to earth than the others will be. I don't know the numbers, I just thought that was cool.
Even the cows look better in "moooooo-oon" light. Oh, that was bad...and I'm not sorry. :-)

Okay...not trying to fool anyone here...this one is the same photo as the one just above the cow...it's just been cropped and the colors were adjusted in photoshop.
