School Boys

Today was the first day of school for the boys. I have two High Schoolers in my house now. A few short years ago...back in September 2001...these two little guys were all ready for the first day of school. Billy was beginning 1st grade and Brian going into 3rd. I love this picture of them, it says so much. There was such a feeling of comfort for me that the boys were going to be in the same school, that Brian would be there looking out for his little brother.

Fast forward to September 2009. Brian and Billy heading off to school together again. It's the first time that they have been in the same school at the same time since they were in 2nd and 4th grade. And again, there is a feeling of comfort for me that the boys were going to be in the same school, that Brian will be there looking out for his little brother. Not that Billy needs looking after, it's just a mom thing.

The school district is really big in Eden Prairie, when the boys started school there was a separate Kindergarten Center (with more kids than my home town!), there were 4 elementary schools that had 1-4th graders, then the Intermediate school for 5 & 6 grades, followed by the Middle School with 7 & 8th grade, and finally the High School. It seems to work well, except for the fact that the boys haven't been in the same school together for a long time.

And now they are. Off they go, the brothers. Hey Brian, did you know that mom is taking our picture?

Yeah, I know, just ignore her, maybe she will go back inside.

Brian, is High School going to be hard? Are the kids nice? Are the lunches good? Will you sit with me on the bus??

It's not too bad Billy, you'll be fine. The kids are nice, the lunches are ok, the girls are extra cute....

....but don't even think about sitting with me on the bus you punk!

No, not really. They're looking out for each other. They promised. :-) Happy first day of High School boys! Where has the time gone?
