Simple Tastes
Sometimes it's the simple tastes in life that are the best. For Penny it's a rawhide bone. She loves them! Sometimes she hides them to save them for later. Sometimes she chews them up as fast as she can. Rawhide...yum.
Sometimes she can't find her bone. Then she chews on sticks. Wood....blech.
My favorite simple taste is coffee. Not fancy coffee, or lattes or designer coffee....but good old Super America Super Mom's coffee. It doesn't get any better than that for me. It's even better yet when Eric brings me a giant cup in the morning for a special surprise. It's just bound to be a great day when it starts that way!

Packing
I've spent some time under a pile of clothes today. There is never enough room in my closet for my Minnesota hot and cold clothing, so every Spring and every Fall I pull my storage boxes up from the basement and switch out the seasonal clothes. I'm usually done by this time of the year, but October was really warm so I didn't tackle it until today. The other motivator is that I am leaving for a fun girls weekend on Friday, so I needed to get ready to pack! Packing summer clothes in my suitcase when we are on the brink of winter here. Now that is something to be thankful for!!

Pictures Today
Just a few pictures for today to catch up. These are the flowers that Eric had given me. I never can remember their name, but they usually last quite a while for cut flowers. This picture was taken 8 days after he gave them to me. They lasted for a few days beyond that. Aren't they pretty?
Our maple out front has lasted longer than most of the trees around here too. Bright yellow leaves in spite of the cloudy, rainy day.
Here's a close up of the leaves taken the next day. I have a new lens...I love it. It's a Canon 50mm f1.4. I'm still learning with it. Crazy depth of field.

Gratitude Posts
The idea of keeping a "Gratitude Journal" is nothing new. Typically it's the act of writing down 5 things that you are grateful for in a journal each day. By focusing on good and positive things each day, by counting your blessings, the energy in your life changes for the better. I've done it before, it does work. So I've decided to take that idea and include it as a part of my blog. Just one thing that I'm grateful for each day. Some days it will be my regular blog post with a Note of Gratitude at the end. Some days it will just be my note.
My hope is that it will get me looking for the good in each day again....and that it will get me back into the routine of blogging everyday. I'm excited about it!

As the boys get older I always wonder what Halloween will bring. Will they still be interested in it? Is it still fun? The answer, happily, is yes! Both boys had a few Halloween events to attend, but the best thing of all is that they both decided it would be the most fun to have friends over to our house on Halloween night! In honor of the occasion I made pumpkin shaped "cake pops". You'll have to check out Bakerella.com to see what cake pops are all about. I struggled with making them this time around...sometimes they are easy to make, sometimes I say I will never make them again.
On Friday morning, Brian dressed up as Andrew Ryan, the villain from the video game Bio Shock, and headed off to school. Some of the kids even knew who he was dressed up as.
They are more "with it" than me. I just thought he looked like Clark Gable. I showed his picture to his grandma's...they thought so too....just before they swooned. Frankly my dear....
Billy didn't dress up for school, but he and his friend Nick dressed up for the school dance on Friday night. Nick is the tall banana, Billy is the 6"3" chicken. Crazy. He said he did the "Chicken dance"....even though they didn't play the music for it! "I don't wanna be a chicken, I don't wanna be a duck, so I shake my butt..."
Sunday afternoon we carved our pumpkins. I really liked this picture of Billy carving his pumpkin...too bad the pumpkin didn't show. Fail.
Eric carved a pumpkin...in between ordering and picking up the pizza for the kids that were coming over.
Brian was concentrating on getting his pumpkin just right. I think it's cool that my almost 18 year old son still likes carving pumpkins.
After the pumpkins were carved, the pizza was eaten and the video games were played, Billy and his buddies went trick or treating. I know, 15 is too old, but they were just being goofy. A gorilla, a chicken, a guy all in black?? and a banana.

A Picture A Day...
...with not much to say....but needed to catch up anyway. Some days, like on sports days, I take a lot of pictures. It's a lot of fun, but it's also a lot of work to sort through them, so I put it off.
On regular days, there isn't always very much that inspires me to take pictures, so I take a few, and then put off looking at them.
On regular days, sometimes I put off taking pictures so long it's almost dark. Then I put off looking at those too.
Some days I just take a couple of pictures of flowers and call it good for the day...but it probably isn't good enough....so I put off looking at them.
Some days Eric surprises me with flowers which of course I want to take pictures of...but then I'm so busy admiring the real thing that I put off looking at the pictures I took of them. Can you tell that I'm pretty good at putting things off?
Then there's the sports again with too many pictures....
...and now the flowers are fading....so what will I do?
Take pictures of Brian shooting his new airsoft gun of course! Something new...woohoo!
And then a picture of Penny smiling at the farm. She's smiling, can't you see it? Is too.
After spending some time at the farm we came home and I hit the bottle. Root beer bottle...from Brian's root beer bottle collection. I was helping take a couple pictures for his digital photography class. It's fun to share what I know, and what I'm learning, and to learn from him. Sometimes it's good to have teenagers around....they are inspiring.
